Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Financiera FDL is an institution dedicated to providing financial services to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Nicaragua’s rural and urban sectors. Created 30 years ago, in 1993, by the founders of the Nitlapan Institute of the Jesuit University of Central America, it acquired its own legal status in 1998, specializing in microfinance, mainly in the rural sector. In 2016, it became a Financiera, regulated by the Superintendence of Banks.

How did FDL come across SIDI?

In the early 2000s, SIDI supported the creation and development of the Latin American and Caribbean Rural Finance Forum, in which FDL was a major player, representing Central America. It was there that we discovered SIDI’s mission and work.

In your opinion, what was the decisive support provided by this partnership? why / for what result?

As a shareholder of FDL, SIDI has made a decisive contribution to FDL’s capitalization during a period of financial losses, stemming from the political-social crisis of 2018 and 2019. Together with other shareholders, this has enabled us to replace losses, overcome the crisis and continue to operate.

Would you like to address the 2,000 shareholders who have enabled SIDI to support FDL?

To the shareholders of SIDI, thank you for believing in and contributing your resources to an institution that is doing a fantastic job, linking North and South, to support the development of communities and families in poor countries around the world.
