Partner description

ALIDé is a microfinance association that took over the microfinance activities of the French NGO Initiative Développement in 2006. With 17 service points covering half of Benin’s 12 departments, it offers microfinance products in urban and rural areas, mainly to women who run income-generating activities.

Country and/or business sector context

Benin has been undertaking multisectoral reforms since 2016 and the advent of the current administration. This has been facilitated by a stable political environment marked by changes in leadership since 1990, unlike most countries in the Gulf of Guinea. The main reforms initiated since 2016 focus on industrialisation strategy (import substitution), infrastructure, the organisation of value chains in several export sectors (soya, cashew nuts), justice and digitalisation with the dematerialisation of business creation, etc. These reforms are having an impact on the country’s economic life, including microfinance activity.

Partner impact

ALIDé actively contributes to improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations in Benin by offering them tailored financial and non-financial services. Present throughout the country, it supports nearly 50,000 clients, particularly in the agricultural sectors. Its main commitment is to supporting women in order to promote their social and economic inclusion.
