Partner description

IDEPRO is a microfinance institution that has merged with Sembrar Sartawi, SIDI’s long-standing partner in Bolivia. The serious difficulties encountered by Sembrar Sartawi led SIDI to support its merger with IDEPRO. The new entity is now the 5th largest microfinance institution in Bolivia in terms of loan portfolio (USD 115 million) and number of borrowers (49,000). Its mission is to contribute to the financial inclusion and development of women and men micro-entrepreneurs through innovative financial solutions, in rural and urban areas across a large part of the country.

Country and/or business sector context

Bolivia is a democratic republic with a poverty rate of 37% of the population, despite its wealth of metals such as tin, silver and lithium. The current president, from the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) party, faces recurring protests over social issues. At the same time, the country is currently experiencing a major banking and financial crisis with visible consequences in the microfinance sector, which risks worsening the situation of the populations served by this partner.

Partner impact

Idepro operates in urban areas (nearly 60% of its customers) and rural areas. With a diverse range of products (credit, savings and other financial services), Idepro focuses on digital innovation to better serve its customers. Thanks to simple and agile offerings, our partner is better able to fulfil its social mission by offering programmes focused on digital inclusion, financial education and social projects.
