PAIDEK is a microfinance company established nearly 20 years ago, whose activity began with loans to rural communities in Kivu. Its lending activities targeted the most disadvantaged segments of this region by promoting group loans. It has since professionalized and transformed to develop a more diversified credit offering, particularly in urban areas.
PAIDEK’s area of intervention covers the two provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu, which are both strongly agricultural and commercial regions. The proximity to borders and the presence of raw materials in the subsoil promote the circulation of money in these two provinces. Microfinance in the Democratic Republic of Congo has historically been concentrated in the Kivus and the west, with Kinshasa. Today, a variety of actors (cooperatives, companies) are attempting to meet customer needs, mainly in urban areas.
PAIDEK operates in North and South Kivu with nine branches, including three in rural areas, which have provided financial services to nearly 3,000 borrowers. Recently, PAIDEK has been developing a savings service offering in all of its branches.
