This partner is rather atypical for SIDI, since it is a venture capital fund managed by the impact investment group Investisseurs et Partenaires (I&P), a pioneer of its kind in Africa, created in 2006. The fund provides equity and quasi-equity financing and support to Nigerien SMEs in all sectors.
Niger’s entrepreneurial fabric is much less dynamic than that of its Sahelian neighbours, and also more opaque and informal. This is one of the main difficulties for SINERGI: identifying entrepreneurs who are capable of understanding the model and opening up their capital to a third party structure that will closely monitor management.
Through the development of its advisory activities alongside its investment operations, SINERGI Niger has successfully reached several thousand agricultural and food entrepreneurs with funding from various donors. Furthermore, venture capital investment activities are currently being restructured, and new investments are planned to refresh the portfolio.
