Yikri is a microfinance institution with a strong social focus. Founded by Entrepreneurs du Monde (EdM), the institution targets people who are marginalised and/or living in extreme poverty, and who have very little access to traditional microfinance services. It offers flexible, tailored financial products and a range of training courses on various topics, including entrepreneurship, social rights and health. SIDI is Yikri’s leading international investor, apart from EdM, and aims to help the institution develop its portfolio and make its business viable.
Since Yikri does not require collateral or guarantees and offers low entry tickets, the institution operates in a market segment that is underserved or not served at all by other microfinance institutions. The institution thus targets highly vulnerable populations in a low-income country, ranked 185th out of 193 countries according to the Human Development Index (HDI).
In addition to targeting highly vulnerable populations, Yikri pays particular attention to the financial inclusion of women, who represent more than 80% of the institution’s beneficiaries. Furthermore, products and services that complement credit – in particular access to savings, group training and individual support – offer significant added value for beneficiaries.
