ASOPROCAM – Association of Coffee and Peanut Producers was founded in 2008 in the province of Manabí – Paján, on the initiative of six producers determined to create inclusive growth opportunities for their community. Drawing on their technical expertise and land management skills, the producers have developed products renowned for their quality and excellence. Their main strength lies in their deep gratitude towards the land, expressed through ancestral practices that respect the environment. Asoprocam now has 55 member producers.
Ecuador is one of the smallest countries in South America, but it has significant economic potential, with mineral and hydrocarbon reserves, as well as rich agricultural and marine resources. However, the country suffers from significant social instability: strikes regularly rock the country due to the cost of living and demands from indigenous peoples who feel neglected. In addition, overcrowding in Ecuadorian prisons is leading to an increase in violence attributed to drug traffickers.
ASOPROCAM has successfully developed a high value-added activity within its community – local peanut processing – which is also lucrative, with organic and SPP certification and export opportunities. With strong local roots, the association is managed exclusively by its producer members. It produces high-quality, exclusive products using local varieties that are suited only to the soil in the area, as well as agroecological and agroforestry practices. These good agricultural practices ensure the preservation of local biodiversity. In addition, ASOPROCAM is very involved with the community, promoting and contributing to initiatives to improve infrastructure, mainly roads, in the area. In line with SIDI’s mission, ASOPROCAM works to empower its producer members, improve their living conditions and, consequently, those of the community, and combat climate change.
