Enda Tamweel is a Tunisian microfinance company created by the NGO Enda Inter-Arabe, a pioneer in Tunisia’s microfinance sector. It works toward the financial inclusion of vulnerable populations, particularly women and youth. Building its development on proximity, Enda Tamweel operates through a network of 108 branches covering all Tunisian governorates and five mobile branches primarily serving remote areas.
Tunisia was the first country of the “Arab Spring” to trigger a peaceful democratization process that gradually withered in recent years before finally concluding with the election of an authoritarian President who suspended the achievements of the revolution. The country does not possess vast natural resources and survives through tourism and remittances from a diaspora that has increasingly taken the path of exile toward Europe in recent years.
Enda Tamweel represents 80% of the microfinance market; its reach is extraordinary. It applies the lowest rates on the market, with low-amount average loans, and combines financial services with training to support small and medium entrepreneurs in developing their activities. Since its creation, Enda has supported more than 1.1 million people and has granted over 4.4 million loans for an amount equivalent to 9,400 million dinars. Enda Tamweel prioritizes targeting women and youth in rural areas; it is also the leading financier of the agricultural sector.
