FINCA Uganda was launched in 1992 to support the development of small businesses in rural areas through the village banking model. FINCA Uganda is a subsidiary of FINCA Microfinance Coöperatief U.A., a Dutch holding company owned by FINCA Microfinance Holding Company LLC (FMH). FMH is a socially responsible investment partnership that owns and manages microfinance institutions and banks worldwide. Adapting to the needs of a changing market, FINCA Uganda has expanded its offering to include a range of financial products, including loans for business, agriculture, solar energy, and education, as well as competitive savings options.
With a population of 48 million, Uganda is the third-largest economy in East Africa, after Kenya and Tanzania. After going through a difficult period until the 1980s, the country has achieved impressive economic performance over the last few decades. Uganda managed the post-pandemic recovery well and has remained resilient in the face of global economic challenges. Agriculture remains the backbone of the Ugandan economy, employing 66% of the population, with coffee being one of the main export resources. Despite this positive trend, poverty persists, with 60% of the population living below the global threshold of $3 PPP/day.
FINCA is at the forefront of financial innovation and inclusion, providing specific services to women and rural residents, recognizing that they are underserved by financial institutions. FINCA Uganda remains attentive to their needs and aspirations through close relationships with its clients and a robust research program. Its brand attributes — warmth, trust, and responsible banking — shine through in every client interaction.
