Soluna is a very small company founded in 2020 thanks to an alliance between two B Corp-certified companies: Eres Energia Renovable (Mexico) and Hybrytec, a Colombian company with more than thirteen years of experience in the solar energy market, supplying solar electricity to rural Colombian populations not connected to the national grid. Soluna’s mission is to provide renewable, reliable and stable energy to rural communities not connected to the national grid. It aims to facilitate access to electricity for these communities by installing its own photovoltaic solutions, tailored to the needs of customers, their operation and maintenance.
Colombia is a middle power and the fourth largest economy in Latin America. It ranks 88th out of 191 countries in terms of the Human Development Index (HDI). The country suffers from major infrastructure deficiencies due to historically low levels of investment and difficult topography, as well as a problematic security situation caused by drug trafficking (especially in the Cauca Valley) and illegal mining. Finally, poverty and inequality levels are extremely high. Coffee, flowers, emeralds, coal and oil production are the main sectors of the Colombian economy.
Soluna’s social impact can be measured in terms of improving its customers’ quality of life through the reliability of the energy it supplies, with a positive financial impact (lower energy bills) and economic impact (increased income from their professional activities). Similarly, Soluna seeks to have a positive environmental impact: clean energy not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions, but also water contamination and carbon footprint, in addition to improving the health of users.
